London Twestival 2011

by Patrick on March 24, 2011

It’s that time of the year again! Twestival time!

This year both myself and Simon Quinton will be rocking the tweets with many of London’s digital and PR crowd, including usual suspects like Onlinefire’s Rax Lakhani and Manifest PR’s Camilla Brown!

Twestival 2011 will see cities across the globe host an array of events to raise cash for local causes, with added dedicated support and a worldwide fundraising initiative for Save the Children’s work in Japan in the wake of recent events in the country.

In earthquake-hit New Zealand, Twestival Auckland has chosen to support the Christchurch branch of The Red Cross, while the festival makes its debut in Tunisia, where Twitter was recently used to attract global media attention and support for political revolution.

Centrepoint’s Martyn Paré-Hall said he and his colleagues ’simply wouldn’t be able to do our job’ without the donations that come from initiatives like Twestival, adding: ‘We work tirelessly to give many vulnerable young people a chance to better their lives and look forward to a future that is full of opportunity.

‘Every penny we get from London Twestival will be spent on the vital services we provide to around 800 homeless young people each day including providing a safe home, help into training and education and support to tackle health issues to turn their backs on homelessness for good.’

Twestival 2010 raised over $250,000 (£154,000) after more than 175 cities around the world got involved, with highlights including a tweet-a-smoothie bar, a tweetable music playlist and opportunities to the win a year’s supply of burritos or place a live bet on a Las Vegas roulette table.

Celebs including Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton and Jamie Oliver also donated exclusive items on eBay to support the festival.

Twestival London 2011 is taking place from 7pm this evening at:

The Cape, Aldermanbury. EC2V 7JQ.

You can buy £10 tickets here for an evening of live music, comedy and the chance to win some fab raffle prizes.
